“Caring for other people is the purpose of Auntie Anne’s” is a declaration painted on a wall at our corporate support center to remind us of these important words from our company founder, “Auntie” Anne Beiler.
Anne’s spirit of putting people first was evident when she went back to work at a farmers market stand and sold items such as pretzels to support her husband’s vision of opening a counseling center. She grew her business from one stand to a worldwide franchise organization with the care she put into handcrafting pretzels. Anne’s approach was simple – use high-quality ingredients, bake each pretzel golden-brown, serve it fresh from the oven, and with a warm, friendly smile. To Anne though, it was more than a snack made from a unique recipe she created. It was delivering a “wow” experience and uplifting peoples’ spirits…literally.
And the Heritage Continues…
More than 26 years later, I’m pleased to say that we’re still raising the standard of snacking by caring for others. To us, it’s more than a tagline or a quote painted on a wall that we pass throughout the day. It’s just the way we work. Not because it is our job, but because it’s our calling.
It’s paying attention to the little things like having a fresh, hot sample ready for you to try. It’s inviting you into our warm kitchen with a smile on our faces. It’s providing you with tasty snacks to enjoy when you are on the go, and serving new products you’ve asked us to bring to market. It’s offering you some extra help as you juggle your fresh-baked snack and precious cargo. It’s giving you comfort, knowing that you can see your pretzel being made right in front of you. It’s awarding our loyal guests with points to earn free pretzels and other swag.
Our purpose is to be part of the communities where we bake. It’s helping Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Hero Kids mightily fight cancer and raising money to find cures for this devastating disease. It’s donating our surplus pretzel products to local hunger relief organizations. It’s investing in future generations and teaching them about entrepreneurship. It’s giving our associates scholarships to realize their educational goals. It’s providing managers the opportunity for a down payment to settle into their own “home sweet home.”
Caring for other people is indeed the purpose we strive to fulfill each and every day. As you read the stories here on the blog, we hope that you will experience firsthand the spirit of caring that is at the heart of Auntie Anne’s. Thank you for joining us as we share the stories of “how we roll.”
